Land acquisition, construction of Machike-Tarujabba Oil Pipeline to start this year

Islamabad:      The land acquisition for laying a 427 km long oil pipeline between Sheikhupura and Peshawar would be completed in the fiscal year 2019-20, APP reports. The project is to ensure a safe supply of oil products from Sheikhupura to Machike-Tarujabba, Peshawar, which would be constructed on Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The project is conceived as a remedy to serious and frequent incidents involving oil tankers. Particularly, after the deadly tragedy of Ahmedpur Sharqiya 2017, the reliable and efficient transportation of oil products across the country was a much needed task.

The project has three sections: Machike-Chak Pirana (135-km), Chak Pirana-Rawat (117-km) and Rwat-Tarujabba (175-km) to transport oil products like HSD and MS oil from Machike to Taru Jabba via Chakpirana and Sihala depots, joining the pipeline from Karachi to Peshawar.
